Bomber Kills 2 in Israeli Mall Blast
2005-07-12
A bomber blew himself up among a group of teens near a shopping mall in the seaside city of Netanya on Tuesday, killing himself and two others in the second such attack since a truce was declared five months ago. About 30 people were wounded, two seriously, police said. There was no immediate claim of responsibility from a Palestinian militant group. The previous bombing was carried out by Islamic Jihad, which said in a statement after Tuesday's attack that it remained committed to the cease-fire.
Yeah, right
The blast went off shortly before 7 p.m. near the Sharon Mall in Netanya. Police said a preliminary investigation indicated the bomber blew himself up among a group of teenagers crossing a busy intersection. Police said they believe there is a link between the attack near the mall and an apparent car bomb explosion some 30 minutes earlier in the Jewish settlement of Shavei Shomron in the West Bank, near Netanya. Police said they have a suspect in the car bombing in custody, and that he belongs to Islamic Jihad.

Netanya is at Israel's narrowest point, nine miles from the West Bank. The city has been a frequent target of Palestinian bombers, but the number of attacks has dropped sharply in the past year, with completion of a section of Israel's separation barrier in the area. The mall has been a target for bombers in the past. On May 18, 2001, a bomber blew himself up at the mall, killing five Israelis. The last bombing in Netanya was on May 19, 2002, when three Israelis were killed on a street not far from the mall. The chief Palestinian negotiator, Saeb Erekat, condemned the bombing. "We understand that those who carried out this attack want to sabotage the efforts being exerted to have a smooth and peaceful disengagement from Gaza and a revival of the peace process," he said.

the only problem is that by doing so, they "kill" off the chances that they'll get what they want.

#6  The Palestinian terrorists chose teenagers because they are committed to a genocidal war and they are smart. Teenagers are the second most expensive assets for a society to lose (after university students). They represent years of sunk costs who are killed just before entering the work force and contributing to society. They are also very unlikely to be replaced by their aged parents.

#5  I guess he chose the group of teenage girls because they would be the least likely to be armed. I have two daughters and have recieved his message 5 by 5.

#4  Ya mean there's bombers in Israel, too? When did that start?

Sorry, that's my way of agreeing with PlanetDan. Except he forgot "Occupying" - as in "Occupying Jews".

#3  the number of attacks has dropped sharply in the past year, with completion of a section of Israel's separation barrier

clear, unequivocal evidence that the barrier works to prevent the needless murder of innocents. which, apparently, is not enough to persuade the UN and the Hague.

Saeb Erekat . . . condemned the bombing. "We understand that those who carried out this attack want to sabotage the efforts being exerted to have a smooth and peaceful disengagement from Gaza and a revival of the peace process"

once again, nothing about the atrocity of suicide bombing targeting, in this case, teens in a mall. the absence of statements even remotely related to the morality of such acts says so much about their true nature.

#2  Of course, this is nothing like the bombings in London, which shook the foundations of decency by targeting innocent civilians. This was meant to kill Jews.

#1  ...remained committed to the cease-fire

Israel ceases and PIJ fires. It's a win-win for everyone!
