Muslim paper reports of terror camps in Bosnia
2005-09-01
A Bosnian Muslim newspaper on Tuesday joined a chorus of mostly Serbian news reports on the existence of training camps for Islamic terrorists, accusing the international community of closing its eyes in front of this danger. The weekly Slobodna Bosna (Free Bosnia), whose editor is Senad Avdic, a moderate Muslim, in its latest issue described in detail how and where the alleged terrorist camps operate in Bosnia. The paper criticised the commander of the international forces in Bosnia (Eufor) David Leaky for his recent statement that he had no knowledge of the existence of such camps.

In the article titled “The Commander of Eufor in Bosnia David Leaky is Playing Dumb”, the paper said that there was no point in presenting the facts to the “uninformed general”. “Is he (Leaky) really uninformed, which is hard to believe, or is he conscientiously deceiving the local public, like most Western politicians who serve in Bosnia and advocate the thesis that the best thing for world security is that all terrorists be concentrated in one place, in Bosnia, where they can be kept under control”, the paper asked.

The paper quoted former UN representative in Bosnia, Jacques Klein, as having confirmed to the Security Council that Islamic terrorists were active in Bosnia, but added that it was good they were concentrated in one place, because “the rest of the world would be safe”.

Similar reports in Bosnian media have been carried in the past mostly by Serbian newspapers and Slobodna Bosna is the first Muslim paper to tackle the subject.

The paper said that terrorist training camps had been situated near the Jablanica and Boracko Lakes in Herzegovina, but were later moved to other locations.

“At the beginning of August this year the Active Islamic Youth organized a big camp between Bihac and Bosanska Krupa, in the location of Grmusa”, the paper said.

According to Slobodna Bosna, the training was conducted under military tents on the property of Fuad Vukovic, whose father Mustafa was one of the founders of the ruling Muslim Party for Democratic Action.

The paper pointed out that it was impossible for the international soldiers not to have noticed the big tents, the presence of large groups of people and automobile plates from various European countries where they came from.

Slobodna Bosna said that apart from Active Islamic Youth, the Wahabi Islamic movement has been gathering strength in Bosnia under the instructions of mujahedin from Arabic countries, who have remained in Bosnia following 1992-1995 civil war.

The Italian daily Corriere della Sera reported last week that a Wahabi cell was also operating in eastern Bosnian village of Gornja Maoca and was plotting terrorist attacks in Italy. The Wahabi school of thought is the strictest of Sunni Islam and is advocated by Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

Re #8 (Ed) A group of terrorists who are planning attacks on the US are currently stationed in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Cybercast News Service (CNS) reports. Karim Said Atmani went to Bosnia after he was released from a French prison ... Abu el-Maali participated in the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. So did Atmani. ....

This is a Bulgarian website yakking about some Cybercast video showing terrorists training in a sports complex and in youth camps.

Get wise already. Whenever a Serb or Bulgarian wants to steal a Moslem's land or rape Moslem women, he spins some yarn about terrorist training camps in sports complexes and youth camps.

Of course, "many of the camps are very moble." That explains how it always happens that when you go to look at them, they are now gone.

The EUFOR commander says he has no knowledge of any terrorist camps in Bosnia. If you would ask him specifically about terrorist camps in sports complexes and youth camps, he probably would add that he decidedly has no knowledge about terrorist camps in those places in particular.

The historical context that should be kept in mind is that only a very few years ago Bosnian and Kosovo Moslems were being robbed, raped, expelled and massacred by the many thousands by Serbs.

The Moselms were saved from these attacks by the US Air Force. The idea that those Moslem communities are now infested with terrorist camps where attacks against the USA are being planned is just a bunch of baloney.

I would think by now everyone would realize that arguing with Mike S. is pointless.

#10  The Serbs have been claiming for about 20 years that Bosnian Moslems are planning and training for terrorist attacks.

You are making this. Before the war the Serbs were not complaining of terrorists in Bosnia but of ethnic cleansing in Kosovo (muslims telling Serbian women were whores and thus legitimate targets for rape) and also that the Bosnian Muslims picked a radical islamist (Izbezgovitch) as president. Just take a look at one of his interviews where he proudly poses against a background where a turbanned warrior is riding a horse over bodies of dead Serbs. That plus the fact that he was a former SS of the Hanschar division.

Given that Bosnian Muslims had elected a such guy don't you think the Serbs had a legitimate motive for secession specially given what the Muslims had done during WWII?

#9  Interesting, ed. Look at this detail:

new ones have sprung up under the guise of youth camps.

Slobodna Bosna printed:

“At the beginning of August this year the Active Islamic Youth organized a big camp between Bihac and Bosanska Krupa, in the location of Grmusa”, the paper said.

Now, it's possible they're drawing on the same sources, so I don't think this counts as confirmation. Yet.

I'll be blunt -- given Mike's track record, the odds that a major terrorist attack will be carried out by graduates of a camp in Bosnia are near 100%.

#8  Terrorist training in Bosnia-Herzegovina
A group of terrorists who are planning attacks on the US are currently stationed in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Cybercast News Service (CNS) reports. The agency has released video footage showing terrorists training at what appears to be a sports complex and practicing kidnapping hostages. Experts believe that this is a training camp. Terrorism expert Ivan Coleman told Cybercast News that most of the main camps that were used in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the war have been closed, but that new ones have sprung up under the guise of youth camps.
...
Hudson Institute researcher Christopher Brown claims that many of the camps are very mobile. “The cells of Al-Qaeda in Bosnia were formed in the 1990s by Laden’s top aide, Ayman al-Zawahiri. CNS claims that terrorists who have served their term of imprisonment and have been set free go to Bosnia and Herzegovina, where they have access to jihad training camps, weapons, and illegal Islamist “charity funds.”

Terrorist Karim Said Atmani went to Bosnia after he was released from a French prison, Coleman stated. Atmani is a Moroccan linked to the Islamist organization GIA, which is responsible for hijacking and setting explosives at the subway in France. Another terrorist, who found a safe refuge in Bosnia and Herzegovina, is Abu el-Maali. He participated in the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. So did Atmani. France accused el-Maali of an attempt at smuggling explosives in 1998 intended for an Egyptian terrorist group, which aimed to destroy the US military objects in Germany. He was also convicted of controlling terrorist cells in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

#7  If you go to Jablanica or Boracko Lakes or the area between Bihac and Bosanska Krupa, you won't find any terrorist training camps.

Did you bother reading the bit you quoted? Because that's exactly what the piece you quoted said. It said they'd been moved.

It always turns out that the terrorist training camps have been moved to another secret location.

So you're calling Senad Avic a liar? You're saying that he -- a Muslim -- is spreading Serbian anti-Muslim propaganda?

What's your theory as to his motivation in doing so?

There are a lot more photographs of Big Foot in the Oregon forests than there are photographs of terrorist training camps in the Bosnian forests.

Bigfoot neither shoots back nor slits your throat.

Now, what about the rather clear information about the locations in the story?

According to Slobodna Bosna, the training was conducted under military tents on the property of Fuad Vukovic, whose father Mustafa was one of the founders of the ruling Muslim Party for Democratic Action.

Do neither of these people exist? Do either of them own property? Has anyone looked at these locations to see if the accusation is true?

I don't know. But Mike, you claim to. How?

Is your real beef with this story that the UN is once more exposed as an ineffective (and dangerous) fraud?

#5  The question stands -- DID YOU READ THE STORY?

Did you even read what I wrote or quoted?

The story isn't about Serbs complaining about training camps. It's about Muslims complaining about training camps. It's not about Bosnian Muslims getting training for self defense, it's about non-Bosnians getting training in Bosnia, from other non-Bosnians.

Fer crissake, we actually have a confirmed instance of moderate Muslims trying to do something about terrorism, and Mikey's trying to wave their worries away as Serb propaganda!

The Serbs have been claiming for about 20 years that Bosnian Moslems are planning and training for terrorist attacks. That has always been the Serbs' justification for robbing, gang-raping, expelling and massacring Bosnian Moslems.

So far, though, the number of terrorist attacks launched by Bosnian Moslems is about zero. The Bosnian Moslems are interested primarily and mainly in defending themselves against Serbs.

#2  Poor assumption, Mikey. If you bothered to read the first line of the story:

A Bosnian Muslim newspaper on Tuesday joined a chorus of mostly Serbian news reports on the existence of training camps for Islamic terrorists, accusing the international community of closing its eyes in front of this danger.

If the camps were intended to train Muslims in self-defense, why would Muslims be worried about them?

The paper pointed out that it was impossible for the international soldiers not to have noticed the big tents, the presence of large groups of people and automobile plates from various European countries where they came from.

If they're learning to defend themselves, why are they coming from "various European countries"? Wouldn't they all be locals?

Did you even bother to read the story?

#1  I assume that these camps are training Bosniaks only to defend themselves against Serbs, who recently massacred tens of thousands of defenseless Bosniaks.
