#5  because if he had a nation, he'd have to call for elections, and in Gaza, Hamas would kick his ass

#4  To expand on Raptor's comment, I believe Abu Mazen put the schedule for statehood in Gaza a year from now.

Now, WHY a year? Why not declare NOW and get a seat at the UN NOW?

Because the moment they become a nation, they fall under the law of nations and get the responsibilites, as well as the privileges, of nationhood. No one knew this better than Arafat, who properly saw disengagement as an unmitigated disaster rather than an opportunity.

#3  Very true,AP.But,with the settlers gone the Isralie army doesn't have to expend resources protecting them. When(not if,when)an attack happens the Isralies can now go in with no holds barred, and both hands free. That's something Hamas and friends haven't considered and will regret.

#2  Israel has no choice now. The die has been cast with the strategic withdrawl. They need a defensible perimeter NOW.

#1  Nothing succeeds like success. That wall is a nightmare to those who want a status quo of perpetual simmering war. The longer the Jews and Paleos are kept apart, the less Paleo leaders will be *effectively* able to blame Jews for all of their problems.
