On Tuesday, the Iraqi government said that security forces found the body of Abd al-Satar, who they described as âa key al-Qaeda memberâ and the current âemirâ of Mosul, the countryâs main northern city. âThe security forces conducted a raid and found Abd al-Satarâs body on the truck with three other dead terrorists,â the government said.
According to the government, three other âemirsâ of Mosul were captured or killed in June, August and September. The US military also announced a series of air strikes âagainst three al-Qaeda in Iraq terrorist safe housesâ around the far western Iraqi town of Husaybah, near the border with Syria. The strike reportedly killed Abu Asim, described as âa senior al-Qaeda in Iraq foreign fighter facilitator who was recently brought in to replace another facilitator thought to have been killed by Coalition Forces.â |
