Terror threat in Australia, bus & train stations evacuated
2005-11-14
BUSES, trains and railway stations in Brisbane have been evacuated because of an apparent terrorist threat. A Queensland Rail spokeswoman said that, acting on police advice, no trains were being allowed into the city. All bus services have been stopped. Passengers have been moved at least 100m away from buses and train stations, and all luggage has been removed. Lord Mayor Campbell Newman is expected to make a statement soon.

More to come as information becomes available.

#4  Stupid schoolboy pranks, or testing the system, d'you think?

Schoolboys generally confine themselves to bomb threats on exam days. I used to work at an Australian education institution, and more than once we had to clear out because of a bomb threat. They told me, "Oh, yes, people call in threats in hopes their exams will be postponed."

Australia's a weird place. They twitter at a shooting but are nonchalant about bomb threats just to get out of taking a test.

#3  Testing, I'd bet. Schools are still in there till Christmas. They should wait till after school's out and the place is jumping.

#1  Police received six calls reporting suspicious packages across Brisbane.

Police said all but one had been cleared.

Police are still investigating a package found on a bus at Sunnybank Hills.
