Lawyers boycott court to protest judge killing
2005-11-18
Lawyers yesterday boycotted courts across the country putting a halt to the judicial activities in protest against the assassination of two judges in Jhalakathi in a suicide bomb attack by the outlawed Islamist outfit Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
Makes sense, in an Islamic kind of way, I guess...
The Supreme Court (SC) and lower courts in the capital as well as the district courts wore a deserted look due to the boycott enforced by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA). The agitating lawyers wearing black badges staged demonstration around the courts throughout the country. Black flags were hoisted on the court premises.

However, the pro-government lawyers termed the court boycott politically motivated. They brought out processions and staged rallies against the move. According to reports from our district correspondents, the SCBA court boycott programme was observed peacefully by the protesting lawyers in the districts. In many districts, the pro-government lawyers held rallies against the boycott.
Sounds like politix as usual. I guess they don't figure they're in any danger, or maybe they didn't like the judges who were bumped off.
