 A leader from the radical Islamic Jihad movement escaped an Israeli assassination attempt when his car was hit by an Israeli missile, just hours after four militants were killed in a similar strike, Palestinian security sources said. The car was not completely destroyed and Islamic Jihad political leader Khader Habib escaped with only slight injuries and a change of underwear, sources in the radical movement said.

The blast occurred in the eastern Al-Shejaiyeh district where the earlier explosion took place. Top Jihad official Mohammed al-Hindi condemned the attempted targeting of one of the movement's top political figures, and said the group would respond. "The attempted assassination of one of Islamic Jihad's political leaders is a very dangerous move," he told AFP. "It is our right to answer these crimes of the occupation."

The Israeli army had no immediate comment on the blast.

Several hours earlier, four militants from the Popular Resistance Committees were killed and three others wounded when an unmanned Israeli drone fired two missiles at their vehicle. The army said the militants were on their way to carry out an attack at the Karni industrial crossing.
