Swallowing Cell Phone May Not Be Voluntary
2005-12-26
A woman who police thought deliberately tried to swallow her cell phone during an argument with her boyfriend was apparently the victim of an assault instead, authorities said.
"How'dja like me to shove that phone right down yer throat?"
"Try it, tough guy!... Urk!"
Police have a suspect in the bizarre incident that sent the 24-year- old woman to the hospital last week, Sgt. Allen Kintz said. Police would not say whether the boyfriend was the suspect

and would not explain exactly what they believe happened.
"So, y'see, we wuz havin' a little argyment, an' I sez 'How'd ya like me to shove that thing down yer throat?' An' then this guy, see, he steps outta the shadows and sez 'Here, lemme help yez widdat,' an' next thing I know she's chokin'. So y'see, it wudn't me... Nope. Nope. Never saw his face. He wuz wearin' a hat..."
"It appears she didn't voluntarily swallow this phone," Kintz said. "It's not quite the way it was first portrayed."
Comes as a surprise, huh?
Early Friday, police responded to a call from a Blue Springs man who said his girlfriend was having trouble breathing. Police arrived to find a woman with a cell phone lodged in her throat. Police were initially told the boyfriend wanted the phone and the woman tried to swallow it so that he could not get it.

#3  I still wanna know why this woman's gag refl;ex didn't prevent her from swallowing the phone, whether vboluntarily or involuntarily. Must be one deep throat.

#1  I must confess that I've had these urges on the roadways from time to time when I have to brake for "Can you hit me now?" types who are more connected to their cell towers than to their steering wheels.
