Pilgrims march to Mount Arafat
2006-01-10
MINA: More than 2 million Muslim pilgrims raised their hands to heaven and chanted in unison, as they hiked through a desert valley on Sunday to a tent city on the outskirts of Mecca in preparation for the annual haj. The journey through the 13km valley puts the pilgrims in place for the start of rituals today (Monday). As they walked, they chanted "Labaik Alluhumma Labaik" (We are coming answering your call). Today they will move to Mount Arafat.
We're waiting for the annual stampede...

#7  "Mount Arafat is near Mecca and pilgrims must run to it after having thrown stones (symbolizing stoning of the devil)."

Uhhh ... does this sort of explain the annual Hajj stampede with its usual compliment of about 500-1,000 dead?

#6  Pilgrims march to Mount Arafat

He||, if that's what they really want, I say let them dig the old rotter up and they can mount him all they want.

#4  I thought the name of the mountain was Ararat, not araFat.

Mount Ararat is near border between Turkey and Armenia. A photo of it allows unmasking a sovizet spyin movie "The snake" starring Henry Fonda and Yul Brinnzer

Mount Arafat is near Mecca and pilgrims must run to it after having thrown stones (symbolizing stoning of the devil).
