A huge blast, believed to be caused by a bomb, rocked a supermarket in Istanbul on Monday, wounding six people, local media reported.Istanbul Governor Muammer Guler was quoted by the semi-official Anatolia news agency as saying that six people were wounded in the blast, one of whom in critical condition. Guler told reporters along with Istanbul Police Chief Celalettin Cerrah that an investigation into the cause of the blast was currently underway, adding "it seems to be caused by a device that exploded."
Earlier, the private NTV cited Guler as accusing Kurdish militants of carrying out the attack.
The explosion took place at a supermarket in the Bahcelievler district of Istanbul, which is Turkey's largest city and popular tourism destination, said Anatolia, adding that the entrance to the two-storey shop was badly damaged. No group has claimed responsibility so far.
