| US ambassador to UN highlights Viet Nam-US relations |

| The bilateral relations between Viet Nam and the United States are very good, said US Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton. "We have good relations with the Vietnamese mission to the UN, and so there are a lot of things on which we work together," Bolton said. He told Viet Nam News Agency reporters in a recent interview that apart from commercial ties, there are other ties that the two countries would like to pursue. The US wants closer cooperation with Viet Nam on the proliferation security initiatives intended to stop the international trafficking of weapons of mass destruction materials and also hopes for greater cooperation between the two sides on the global war on terrorism. The US ambassador is optimistic about the relationship between the two countries, saying that the future is likely to bring improved relations between Viet Nam and the US. Regarding the US stance on Viet Nam's bid for non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council for the 2008-2009 tenure, Bolton said that historically, the US has never publicly announced its intentions in Security Council voting. |
