According to the Bulgarian newspaper Monitor, the countryÂ’s Ambassador to Finland Venelin Tsachhevski has illegally sold large amounts tax-free alcohol, intended exclusively for diplomatic use. The Chief of protocol of the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Per-Mikael Engberg, says that the alleged sale of alcohol was an issue here already a year ago. As a result, the ministry examined how much tax-free alcohol the Bulgarian Embassy had imported. "We found out that the quantities surpassed what an embassy of this size can conceivably consume."The ambassador has allegedly sold wine and spirits to both Bulgarians living in Finland, and to Finns. In addition he is alleged to have demanded reimbursement for value-added tax on imported alcohol.
