Violence kills four civilians, two policemen, one gunman in Iraq

(KUNA) -- At least four civilians, two policemen and a gunman were killed in separate incidents in Iraq Monday, while anonymous gunmen attacked the house of senior Iraqi intelligence official to kidnap four of his guards. Iraqi Interior Ministry source told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that mortar shells from unidentified source killed four civilians and injured another 14 in the market of Mahmoudiya town, south of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad. The mortar shells torched several stores and destroyed at least three civilian cars, added the source who requested anonymity.

In eastern Baghdad, anonymous gunmen attacked the house of Interior Ministry Undersecretary for Intelligence Affair Major General Hussein Kamal, said an Iraqi police source. No further details about attack on Kamal's house were disclosed as the Interior Ministry has not commented to the incident yet.

Meanwhile, the convoy of Dyala governor was targeted with a bomb today in a road between the cities of Baqoba and Kanaan, said Iraqi police said in a statement. The statement added that bomb explosion killed a policeman and injured a Lieutenant from Iraqi police.

In the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk, gunmen attacked an Iraqi police patrol to kill a policeman and injured another two. Iraqi police Brigadier Sardah Qader told KUNA that joint forces comprising Iraqi police, Iraqi army and Multinational Forces retaliated and killed one gunman, injured another two and arrested another 43 suspects.
