Nasrallah Is Already Carving out LebanonÂ’s Future |
2006-08-15 |
President George W. Bush and prime minister Ehud Olmert in speeches on Aug. 13 laid down the law on the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701. Bush said the motion marked a pivotal moment in the Middle East and would end Hizballah’s state within a state. This term was borrowed from an earlier Lebanon reality: The stranglehold Yasser Arafat’s PLO held on South Lebanon and Beirut in the 1970s. Tuesday morning, an Israeli spokesman emphasized that Hassan Narallah “must” obey the Security Council resolution. If he failed to do so, Israel “would have to do the job.” DEBKAfile’s exclusive sources in Beirut report that Nasrallah’s machinations represent a reality which is a world away from this kind of rhetoric:

#11 Israel should nuke everything north of the Litani, and kill every Muslim south of the river. THEN they'd have a peace they could live with. Anything else is going to be rinse and repeat. |

#10 I hope that the IAF will fire heavy missiles at Nasrallah as soon as he leaves his bunker. Olmert said that Israel would pursue him forever. But can Olmert be trusted? |

#9 What does this teach us? That a government which bases its decisions on popularity polls is crippled from the get-go. This sort of non-leadership is poisoning the efficacy of America's domestic and foreign policy. |

#8 Someone needs to start carving out Nasrallah's heart with a dull rusty butter knife. Snuffing this one maggot would make for a huge change. Assad should have the pleasure of having his palace collapsed on him. These sh!ts are the source of so much grief that it goes beyond imagination. You know it. I know it. The Israeli administration knows it. The US administration knows it. What does this teach us? |

#6 I read here the other day the Israelis would never call for an election during a time of war. So they have a cease fire - what are they waiting for? |

#5 eLarson---I would not count on any a$$kicking on Israel's part until their own internal problems in the govt are sorted out, IMHO. |

#2 Hizb has had some significant a$$kicking, but now they will be able to reinfiltrate south Lebanon among the refugees and, if the farces, er forces settle in, will start their little rocket game, just like the good olde days with ye Olde UNIFIL forces. So now the New and Improved™ forces will have to choose to try and stop Hizb and face Hizb's ire, or object strenuously and stay put, causing tremendous tactical problems for Israel. My money is on the latter. This so-called cease fire is an absolute disaster for Israel. And Olmert can be thanked for the half-a$$ed leadership he provided in Israel's time of crisis. |

#1 Unfortunately, yet predictably, this report is playing out accordingly. |
