Four more US soldiers die in Iraq
2006-08-30
BAGHDAD - The US military on Tuesday announced the deaths of four US soldiers, bringing to 12 the number of troops that have died over three days.

Two soldiers died in separate incidents from wounds received in ”enemy action” on Sunday in the western Al Anbar province of Iraq, according to a statement from coalition headquarters. The two casualties brought to 10 the number of servicemen to have died as a result of wounds sustained on Sunday in insurgent attacks, with eight of them reported dead in and around Baghdad.

In another incident, a soldier died on Sunday from non-hostile causes, a statement said without offering details. Earlier Tuesday the military had said another US soldier died after his Humvee utility vehicle rolled into an Iraqi canal. A statement said a National Guardsman from Nebraska died as a result of injuries sustained a week earlier when the Humvee flipped into water near Camp Anaconda outside Balad, northern Iraq. “Two others were injured in the accident (and) are still undergoing treatment for their injuries,” it added.

Sadly, their response would be that the military screwed it up and that it certainly wasn't their fault...

#4  In other words, those that screamed the military failed because the Hummers were not tanks are complicit.

Yep. Just like the screaming safety nannies who forced the auto industry to install passenger side airbags without enough testing resulting in infants being killed. No one pillors these twerps in front of cameras with the video records of their demands and then pictures of the consequences.

#1  Humvees tendency to flip over would have been aggravated by adding a lot of bolt-on armor.

Still, six or eight months ago, I read (here) an account where after US forces tried for hours to recover their comrades from a flipped-over Humvee in a canal, the Iraqi army came by and took over the recovery opperation.

I'm sure the NYT carried the story, too.....
