Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez's verbal attacks against his American counterpart, George W. Bush, should not affect diplomatic relations between the two countries, the US ambassador said Monday. William Brownfield said officials in Washington would try to overlook the string of insults uttered last week by Chavez, who called Bush "the devil" at the UN General Assembly and an "alcoholic" at a New York church. "My government's position is that we are going to ignore, we can ignore and we should ignore the words. It's the actions that count," Brownfield told the Venezuelan TV station Globovision. "This bilateral relation is so important for the two countries that we try to ignore the polemical words, the rhetoric."
