The Crime Cover-up in D.C., Part Two
2006-09-26
There is a crime emergency in Washington, D.C, and the problem is compounded by the failure of most of the area media to report on, not to mention examine, the racial nature of the threat that faces tourists and other visitors to the nation's capital.

A white British tourist, Alan Senit, was murdered in cold blood by a group of three young blacks. Another black gang has been arrested for a series of assaults on the National Mall. However, there is no death penalty in D.C. and gun control laws prohibit personal possession of a firearm. That means that tourists are defenseless, except for a belated police response, and criminal perpetrators will never face the death penalty no matter how many people they kill.

When white police commander Andy Solberg warned residents of Georgetown, a mostly white area of the city, to beware of roving gangs of black youths, he was disciplined by the black police chief Charles Ramsey. It is politically incorrect to talk about who is actually committing crimes. In response to my original commentary on this problem, an area resident named Harold Cureau wrote and said:

"I couldn't agree with you more. I wrote a letter to the editor of 'The Examiner' in response to an article regarding this same topic and the brutal death of Mr. Sennit. Because of cases such as this, I wish the death penalty in DC was in full force. Until the black community realizes that our biggest threat is within our own race, and the inescapable truth that black males commit more murders per capita than any other group, then the problem will become more and more magnified.

"Until blacks in this city and region acknowledge that members of their own group are responsible for the majority of violence and carnage around here, then things will never get better. BTW, I am a black male, native of New Orleans, so believe me, it's not just whites that agree with these sentiments. I wholeheartedly side with Solberg, and wish more people like him would stand up and speak out. His comments were not racist, but cold, hard irrefutable facts. I do not think for one minute that blacks are not welcome in Georgetown and other exclusive areas of the city. I have never felt that way in my 5 years here. The message is, however, no matter what color you are, if you cannot act in a decent and civilized manner, you are NOT welcome.

"Frankly, I don't think Chief Ramsey is the problem here, and in fact, I think he faces a lot of resistance from blacks in D.C. I know there are a lot of things he wants to say, but cannot. I'm afraid once he does leave, the department and city will go to crap. Let's hope not.

"To be honest with you and it pains me greatly to say this, I at one time wanted to raise a family in this area, but in a year or so, I will be moving away from this environment and to a more rural/suburban place, where at least my children can play without having to worry about bullets flying."

#20  I don't blame him or anyone else for getting out of there. I don't even drive down to my fav French cafe in Georgetown anymore. I won't go there! Again, it's not the eaches, the fellow or family mentioned in this posting or the General Powell, Tiger Woods, or Hand Aaron types that concern me. It's the culture that continues to vote democratic no matter what, and votes for felons like Marian Barry, and donks like Cindy Mckinney. My heartburn is with those that see me as a "blue eyed devil" and contantly honk the victim, reparation, free tuition ride, you OWE me something horn. Then when their neighborhood falls in on them, they want to move out next to me, and the gummit facilitates the loan and relocation! I'm just fed up with it. Thats my last on it. Deny it if you will, it's still happenin.

#19  Agreed on the blue lipped Martian.

Are you suggesting that Cureau's presence would bring real estate prices down because he's black? Because he has the sense to not raise a family in DC? Or because ?????

#18  Not avoiding anything dimmit lady. I'll openly acknowledge this fellow as a God fearing, law abiding citizen as well as Deacon's kin, no problem, no judgement made. The issue is not one of eaches, but one of democraphic shifts, culture, and simple economics. If blue lipped 9 legged, peace loving, law abiding Martians moved into my neighborhood and the price of real estate sky rocketed, I'd be delighted! So would everybody else.

#17  and he's NOT illegal

#16  The point you are working hard to avoid acknowledging is that Cureau is just the sort of person who ISN'T bringing that inner city mess with him -- he's rejecting it and refusing to raise his kids there.

Ya know???

#15  It's no "snark" when you the school district goes south and no one wants to move there. Houses prices drop like pine cones, etc. It "didn't happen to me," because I selected a residential area AWAY from that crap, not in the (Fulton County) middle of it. If they others bring it in, then yes sir, I'm a cuttin my losses like the rest and movin on.

#14  Oh, bullshit. First, tourists are disarmed everywhere - at least the ones that fly in. Second, law or no law there are lots of guns on the streets of DC in the hands of both thugs and otherwise law abiding citizens practicing a little civil disobience. The bad guys go ahead and take their chances anyway. There's something seriously f*****d in the culture of parts of DC, like most cities in the US and around the world, but the gun laws, while useless, don't have much to do with it

#13  Don't need to apply labels, Besoeker -- you use all the code words right up front.

So, other than your snark, are saying he's wrong? I've seen it happen, especially when illegals move in and buy houses through strawman purchases. My Mom's old neighborhood, the one I grew up in is now a war zone. If it happened to you, you might sing a different tune.

#12  Ok, now said, everybody can jump on with the appropriate labels

LOL! DU?

#9  "They" bring their troubled hip-hop, gang banger youth, friends, and problems with them. The schools go down hill, crime increases, real estate prices tumble, equity is lost, taxes go up (more police, emergency and social services, etc) and white "folks" begin looking to re-locate elsewhere.

Don't need to apply labels, Besoeker -- you use all the code words right up front.

#8  I take offense at your comment Besoeker. I have blood relatives that are black and they are good, decent people. Here's one of them in Iraq last year. She lives in Texas.

#7  read George Pelecanos's novels if you want a good look at DC residents trying to make a go of it in bad environments. He's one of my favs. Not all blacks are hoods, B

#6  This is called lawless anarchy. This is what naturally occurs when decent citizens are dissarmed, and, even worse silenced when they only cry out for help. I hope the LLL with Fat Ted in the vanguard are happy. The DC metro area is basically a no mans land after dark. And, only safe in daylight if you're inside your government limo or accompanied by armed bodyguards.

#4  Frank... it has nothing to do with geography, it's called reality. They bring their troubled hip-hop, gang banger youth, friends, and problems with them. The schools go down hill, crime increases, real estate prices tumble, equity is lost, taxes go up (more police, emergency and social services, etc) and folks begin looking to re-locate elsewhere.

Never gonna happen, not so long as Kennedys are in Congress.

#2  huh? This guy sounds like the kind of guy you want as a neighbor. Taxes? Equity?
Posted by: Frank G   2006-09-26 17:10

#1  Harold, if you can't stay and fix your own problem I kinda understand, but please select Massachusetts or New Jersey as your migration destination. NOT Georgia or Texas. Our taxes are already too high and real estate equity is flat.
