In an appearance on Geo TV's programme Capital Talk on Tuesday, former ISI officials criticised President Gen Pervez Musharraf for saying that retired officials from the intelligence agency could be involved in Talibanisation. Gen (r) Hameed Gul, former ISI chief, called Musharraf's statement "shameful", and said it would have "harmful results" for the president, the ISI and Pakistan's armed forces. Commenting on Afghanistan's allegations against the ISI, former chief of the intelligence agency Asad Durrani said the allegations could only be stopped if Pakistan honestly told Karzai that it was "not in a position to control the Taliban from its borders". Former ISI official Khalid Khawaja said Musharraf had "endorsed" foreign allegations by giving such a statement.
