(KUNA) -- At least eight people were killed and another four wounded in clashes between Darfur rebels and the forces of the Sudanese Liberation Movement in Mahajriya area in Darfur. The Sudanese Press Center cited on Wednesday Jadallah Abdul-Hakim, a leader from the Darfur rebels, as saying that his forces were intimidated by the movement forces on Monday night, which led to the clashes. Abdul-Hakim said eight among his forces were killed and four from the Liberation Movement were wounded.An African Union aircraft transported the wounded gunmen to Darfur's capital, Al-Fashir, where they received treatment, he added. During the past few days, Darfur witnessed several battles between Darfur rebels and the Sudanese government forces, which led the UN to decide urgent transport of 40,000 Sudanese refugees to Chad.
The UN World Food Program (WFP) affirmed yesterday that about 250,000 people in Darfur could not obtain food provided by the UN sue to fighting. Clashes between government forces and rebels in Darfur have killed more 200, 000 Sudanese and forced more than two million to flee their houses since 2003.
