Iraqi police officer assassinated, 11 injured in Mosul

(KUNA) -- An Iraqi police officer was gunned down by unknown insurgents in the Iraqi city of al-Mosul, while 11 civilians were injured due to clashes between police forces and gunmen in two of the city's neighborhoods, police said Tuesday. Lieutenant Colonel Salah Mohammad Al-Jbori of Tal Afar police was shot as he was leaving a relative house in Palestine neighborhood southern Mosul, a source in the Iraqi police told KUNA. The deceased was wearing civilian clothes when attacked, the source added.

Meanwhile, gun clashes between an Iraqi police patrol and a group of unidentified armed men resulted in the injury of seven people, including two children and two women. The injured were hit whilst inside their houses, due to the proximity of the clashes. The area of Dourat al-Yarmouk, where the quarrel took place was surrounded, which prevented any damage information to be realized.

In a related story, armed clashes that followed a bomb explosion resulted in the injury of four people, according to a police source. The clashes, that lasted about 30 minutes, took place in an area northern Mosul, the source added.

Two unidentified bodies were found by police forces in separate areas in eastern Mosul, the source said. Furthermore, large and diverse quantities of weaponry; believed to be of the former Iraqi army, were seized by police after being reported by citizens, the source added.
