KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (10 December) – Based on after action reports ISAF now believes troops repelling an attack killed seven or eight insurgents between Musa Qal’eh and Nawzad districts on 02 December, not the figure of seventy to eighty shared widely with media based on incorrect early reports.
Reports that fighting has taken place in the district centre of Musa QalÂ’eh or that the fighting represented a violation of the security arrangement reached between elders and the government there are patently false. This was originally a Reuters story. The ISAF press release, I noted at the time, did not have a number. Reuters, et al, reported their numbers from an unnamed ISAF spokesman.
