Iran installing 3,000 centrifuges
2007-01-16
Iran said Monday it is currently installing 3,000 centrifuges, effectively confirming that its nuclear programme is running behind schedule as these devices for uranium enrichment were to have been in place by the end of last year. “We are moving toward the production of nuclear fuel, which requires 3,000 centrifuges and more than this figure,” government spokesman Gholamhossein Elham told a news conference. “This programme is being carried out and moving toward completion.”

On the weekend, Iran dismissed reports from Europe that its uranium enrichment programme had been stalled. Enriched uranium is used as fuel in nuclear reactor and, at a higher degree of enrichment, it is also used in atomic bombs. But last year Iran had said the installation of the 3,000 centrifuges at its facility in Natanz, located in central Iran, would be completed by the end of 2006.

IranÂ’s failure to install the 3,000 centrifuges by Dec 31 has provoked reports that it is encountering technical difficulties in mastering large-scale enrichment. Further, earlier this month, Vice President Gholamreza Aghazadeh, who heads the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, told reporters that about 50 centrifuges had exploded during a test.

#11  For the umpteenth time: the nuclear program is irrelevant. All we have to do is target the domestic gasoline/diesel production facilities, and the import terminals. Iran imports almost 75% of their gasoline/diesel. Destruction of the facilities would bring Iran and the blackhats to a grinding, screaming halt. The blackhats have recognized this and are on a building spree.

No gasoline for the masses? Mass rebellion.

#10  I wonder what the left would say if we went to war against Israel?

#9  Don't forget blaming the President for war in Iraq when the problem was Iran. Of course, in a parallel universe where we started with Iran, "the left" is blaming us for doing the opposite.

#8  That point is only missed by the left. A point theft will never let themselves see until its to late. At which time they will make excuses for Iran. Most likely blaming Americas aggressive stance and Israel for existing.

#7  Don't these things spin 20% faster than F1 engines?
Lets see if that persian engineering is better than Han's from Stuutgard or Aldo from Turin.

#6  Point missed. These towel heads are planning on mass producing atomic bombs.

#5  Wonder how many scientists and engineers have been executed for the failures so far. Probably a bunch.

#4  Are we waiting to see if these idiots will blow themselves up first before we have to smack them?

#2  Especially if the 50 blow up as a result of JDAM impact.

#1  50 ~= 1.7%. However, the article does not say how many were actually tested together. The thing is that if you have 3000 running and 50 blow up, the whole cascade goes down to tubes.
