#6 This is pretty interesting stuff. I came across this a few days ago and did some research. Ended up updating the Wikipedia page on the Chiemgauer and some other related pages. It turns out that there's a close link between this kind of scrip and gift cards. A fairly unique feature of the Chiemgauer is it depreciates 2% per quarter. Besides encouraging expenditure in the Chiemgau, the velocity of this scrip is high because of the depreciation.
