The bomb disposal unit successfully removed and destroyed an improvised explosive device placed inside a convenience store in Yala municipality Tuesday morning. The IED, weighing about five kgs, was placed inside a 7-Eleven store, where it was supposed to be detonated by a mobile phone. Police said they were alerted by a staff member of the store after he saw a man enter the store and leave quickly. A suspicious box was found in the store. A bomb disposal team arrived shortly afterwards, and removed the suspicious box from the store. The box exploded after it was hit by a water jet. Meanwhile in Janeh district of Narathiwat, insurgents detonated a roadside bomb as troops assigned to guard teachers moved past the scene. No one was hurt by the IED. |
