Jury watches footage from London 7/7 bombings
2007-02-21 | |
A jury at the trial of six men accused of attempting to detonate bombs on London's transit system were shown a video Tuesday of one of the suspects fleeing the capital dressed in a burqa.
The six men were arrested after alleged attacks on July 21, two weeks after four suicide bombers killed 52 people on the transit system. Omar and the other five defendants - Muktar Said Ibrahim, 29; Adel Yahya, 24; Manfu Asiedu, 33; Hussain Osman, 28; and Ramzi Mohamed, 25 - have all denied charges of conspiracy to murder and conspiracy to cause explosions likely to endanger life.

#4 Yes, the Lakes are still one of the most unspoilt areas of the country - enjoy while you can. |

#3 Yes, rural Britain still exists out there... and is rapidly becoming the last retreat of the sane. Things are not well in the British countryside - the government's antipathy to rural communities is remarkable compared to its cosseting of urban ethnic and religious minorities. This has bred resentment - the foot and mouth fiasco, foxhunting ban, closure of rural hospitals, mothballing of rural transport etc - and such resentment will lead to more direct protests than the 2002 Countryside March. Fortunately most of this green and pleasant land is not yet interspersed with minarets... |

#1 Right, terrorists have used the burka to escape the Police after an attempted suicide bombing. Can we now get on and ban the burka in all public places - striiking a blow for counter terrorism and women's rights at the same time? No, because we may offend a handful of religious extremists in the muslim community and some poncey Guardian reading Sociology lecturers? We really are screwed in the UK. |
