Suitcases came from Saharanpur
2007-02-23
The suitcases used to plant bombs in the Samjhauta Express were bought from Saharanpur, investigations have revealed. This vital clue, which is being seen by the police as the only real chance of solving the Samjhauta Express blasts, was received by them on Thursday from the manufacturer of the suitcases used by the bombers.

Delhi Police had on Wednesday detained the Old Delhi-based manufacturer of these suitcases, which are sold for barely Rs 120-150. This man was subjected to intense interrogation during which he revealed that these suitcases are sold only in Saharanpur now. Officials involved in his interrogation said that he had stopped supplying these suitcases in Delhi and other places almost eight months ago. In fact, the manufacturer has categorically said that except for Saharanpur, there is no other place where these suitcases, which come wrapped in blue denim, are sold.

This latest development in the investigations is likely to confirm the suspicion that the blasts were the handiwork of Lashkar-e-Taiba. According to security agencies, Saharanpur is one of the few towns in western UP where LeTÂ’s roots run really deep. A joint team of Delhi and Haryana police is now camping in Saharanpur. The cops are also focusing on the make of the bottles which had been kept in these suitcases. Each of these bottles is of a hitherto unknown make,
