| 20 Turkish Hizbullah members sentenced to life |

| A Turkish court sentenced 20 members of the outlawed Turkish militant Islamist group Hizbullah to life imprisonment on Monday for killing civilians, ending a case that lasted 13 years. The group, which killed scores of people in the late 1980s and early 1990s, targeted mostly Kurds in Turkey's southeast region during fighting between Turkish security forces and PKK Kurdish separatist guerrillas. The ruling is the first against the shadowy organisation, which has said it wants to overturn Turkey's secular state and introduce Islamic sharia law. Turkey's Hizbullah is not linked to the Lebanese group Hezbollah. The 20 defendants were charged with murders between 1990 and 1994. Another two defendants were given a sentence of 16 years due to their young age when the murders were committed. |

| #3 Life in a Turkish prison is actually worse than death. Wish we had the same prison system here. IIUC... It is, if you happen to be a young white man without gang affiliation (sent to prison for drug-related issues most often), especially if you're frail and/or good looking... since you're literally at the very bottom of the food pyramid, and are for the taking (sexually speaking, but also in term of racket, abuse,...) of any inmate or group of inmates who wish to "turn you in". Blacks and hispanics of similar social and physical status are much rarer in the US prisons, and they face the same threat, but they can be "turned in" only by their own ethnic group, or there would be a riot. Whites can be and are preyed upon by just everyone, and this is the reason many join white supremacy prison gangs (who also are predators of the same not-manly/tough enough white men, btw). IIRc, I'm aware of two white-on-black hate crimes in which the white perpretator initially joined a racist group after having been gangraped by black inmates in jail (one famous internet stabbing vid, and the car-dragging of James Byrd).
