...overwhelming stench of anti-Americanism was quite noticeable...." |

I know it's opinion and we here are not surprised, but.... I have a neighbor who's in Italy now and will have friends visiting Britain this summer, I'm sure those will be very interesting conversations when they get back. ...The first striking thing, as an American, was that the overwhelming stench of anti-Americanism was quite noticeable. America appears to be viewed as the source of all problems in the world by a substantial majority of Western Europe. There’s also more than a mere whiff of anti-semitism floating in the air. For instance, the down stock market we’ve experienced recently – not unique to the U.S. but a worldwide phenomenon - was attributed to “panicky Americans” when the market first dipped.... |

#6 The ruling classes of Old Europe are dead set on integrating into a superstate and need Amerca to be the bogeyman with which to beat down resistance. If that is what enough Europeans want then fine with me. I wish them luck. But it's a mistake subsidizing their plans to the tune of $250 billion each year through US trade deficits and military spending in Europe. There is nothing America needs from the continent except for some bright and ambitious immigrants. Pull out the troops and treat the parts that insist on being rivals as rivals. By mid century, the USA will be at 450 million and Europe will be a backwater with 300 million or less with the southern and western core ruled by islamic imperialists. Hell no, my grandson won't go. Not again. |

#4 At least we're not to blame for creating French and Belgian politicians and bureaucrats - that's all self-inflicted. |

#2 We could actually defuse a lot of this by making fun of it. That is, sneaking things into their press like blaming the failure of Airbus on America. Then that the EU constitution is an anti-democratic joke because of America. Then unplanned pregnancies are America's fault, as Americans are knocking up teen European girls. Americans also make the French smell bad, cause soccer riots, and are responsible for the huge ghettos full of illegal immigrants. |

#1 Mike at Cold Fury is always a good read. There used to be a link to the site from Rantburg, but about a year ago it was dropped. |
