The outline of a modest package of new sanctions against Iran is taking shape but the world's most powerful nations are still divided on several key measures, UN diplomats said on Monday. Ambassadors from the five veto-wielding permanent Security Council nations - the United States, Russia, China, Britain and France - and Germany failed to agree on new sanctions to pressure Iran to suspend uranium enrichment at a meeting late Sunday. The six envoys were scheduled to meet again late Monday. In December, the Security Council imposed limited sanctions against Iran for its refusal to freeze uranium enrichment. It ordered all countries to stop supplying Iran with materials and technology that could contribute to its nuclear and missile programs and to freeze assets of 10 key Iranian companies and 12 individuals related to those programs. The council warned it would adopt further nonmilitary sanctions if Iran refused to comply.
