KNOXVILLE, Tennessee (AP) -- A man accused of gunning down a teenager over an affair with his teacher wife admitted to the shooting in a jailhouse interview aired Thursday but said it was an accident.
"It wuz a accident! I wuz aimin' fer her, an' he got in the way!"
Eric McLean, charged with first-degree murder in the death of Sean Powell, told NBC's "Today" show that he knew "for a long time" that his wife was having an affair with the young man, but he refused to believe it. "She was talking on the phone with him all of the time and talked about him a lot," McLean said. "It was like in a friendship way, but it was odd. I didn't think it was normal, and I told her it's not normal for you to be talking to students like this on the phone so much every day."
He said he also heard about the relationship from his two young sons a few weeks before the shooting: "They said that they went to the park with her and Sean, and that they were holding hands." |
