Police will launch a crackdown on brothels and gambling dens in the capital to rid society of social evils, SSP Zafer Iqbal told reporters on Monday. The SSP said legal action would be taken against brothels and gambling dens. However, he said, prayer leaders would not be consulted in this connection. “Police can even act against the culprits on the basis of media reports,” he said. Iqbal said police had beefed up security in the capital following Saturday’s suicide blast. “Plainclothesmen have been deployed at important locations,” he said. He said police were prepared to provide security uring the hearing of the presidential reference against the chief justice. “Only vehicles bearing stickers issued by the SC authorities will be allowed to head towards the SC building,” the SSP said, adding that walkthrough gates and pickets would be installed at various routes. |
