HOUSTON: A Pakistani student was convicted on Thursday of federal firearms charges after he was arrested for taking part in exercises that prosecutors said were held to train Muslim men to fight US troops overseas.
Syed Maaz Shah, a 20-year-old engineering student at the University of Texas at Dallas, was arrested for firing weapons during two camping trips last year. Shah was indicted on two counts of possession of a firearm by an alien and two counts of alien in possession of a firearm affecting interstate commerce. Shah faces up to 10 years in prison for each of the two counts when he is sentenced on September 14. |
