| Security forces recovered 20 kilograms of explosives from an oil tanker plying between Dara Adam Khel and Mir Ali town in North Waziristan on Monday, according to a military press release. "An oil tanker was stopped for checking in Frontier Region Bannu on Monday morning. On search, 20 kilograms of explosives were recovered from the hidden compartments of the oil tanker," the statement read. Dara Adam Khel town is a semi-autonomous tribal region 35 kilometres south of Peshawar well known for arms and explosives production. The statement said "miscreants," a reference to tribal militants, could have used the explosives to prepare suicide jackets and improvised explosive devices for insurgency-related activities. "Timely action by security forces and intelligence agencies have managed to avert a major terrorist action by the miscreants." The driver and 'conductor' of the oil tanker have been taken into custody and are under investigation, the statement said. Meanwhile, unidentified militants on Monday fired a rocket and launched an attack with automatic weapons on the Banda check post in Miranshah, headquarters of North Waziristan. Security forces retaliated, but no loss of life was reported. |
