Ten militants were killed in an ambush with security forces in the troubled northwestern region. Seven soldiers were also wounded, sources said yesterday. However, the wounded soldiers were in a stable condition.The clash took place in the Shawal area, 70 km southwest of Miranshah, the main town in the North Waziristan region. “The exchange of fire broke out when militants tried to attack our convoy and our forces reacted, killing 10 militants,” said military spokesman Maj. Gen. Waheed Arshad.
Intelligence officials in North Waziristan said the pro-Taleban militants had managed to capture about 35 soldiers from five vehicles but Arshad said he had no information about that.
The latest attack came a day after dozens of masked militants stormed a military post in another northwestern tribal region, Bajour, abducted two soldiers and bombed the building, an official said yesterday. More than 30 assailants attacked the security post Saturday night, local security official Yar Mohammed Khan said. They blew up the building before fleeing with two paramilitary soldiers from the Bajour Levies, a border security force.
