Second Flier's Sexy Outfit Comes Under Fire

ENCINO, Calif. -- A second woman is complaining after an airline took issue with her sexy attire. Setara Qassim said she was flying home to Burbank, Calif., from Las Vegas in June when a Southwest Airlines flight attendant gave her a blanket and told her to cover up.

"The flight attendant came up to me and asked me if I had a sweater, and I said, 'No, because why would I pack a sweater in the heat?'" Qassim said. "So I asked her why, and she said I needed to cover up."

Just last Friday, a woman from San Diego told a similar story to the "Today" show. She said a Southwest Airlines flight attendant had also taken issue with the propriety of her attire. Kyla Ebbert, 23, wore the exact same outfit on "Today" Friday morning. Ebbert said she was allowed to stay on the flight after she agreed to pull up her tank top and pull down her skirt.

NBC News was not able to reach Southwest Airlines in connection with Qassim's claims, but the airline did release a statement last week in response to the incident involving Ebbert.

"Southwest Airlines was responding to a concern about Ms. Ebbert's revealing attire on the flight that day," the statement said. "As a compromise, we asked her to adjust her clothing to be less revealing. She complied and she traveled as scheduled. When a concern is brought to our employees' attention, we address that situation directly with the customer(s) involved in a discreet and professional matter. Fortunately, as an airline that carries approximately 96 million customers a year, those situations are extremely rare."

#19  You realize that if a male 20 year old, as opposed to a female 20 year old, were to be flashing his sexual organs to a planeload of strangers he'd probably wind up on some sort of national offender's database.

#18  Setara Qassim...

I'm going to assume that she's Indian, as otherwise, there'd be riots because she's out of her burka.

And, as far as motivations for the complaints, have you seen flight attendants lately? Can you say jealousy???? And, I agree with lotp's assessment of the "race to the bottom" as far as s!utty clothing goes. Jeebus, some of these girls knowingly dress like this.

#17  She can fire those Qassim's at me anytime.

#16  Catholic guilt works. ;-)

And we mods are happy to remind y'all of the incredible resource Fred has been providing for 6 years now.

#15  A double rim shot for lotp. Clearly a woman who knows how to make a man feel manly.

#14  Agreed, we have fine establishments for this and Southwest air is not one of them. Bet they let her on at Hooter air. I fly 3 or more times a month and my levels of disgust are constantly being raised. drunks, people who never bathe, or some jerk who thinks his seat is an office.

BTW LOTP I have not hit the tip in a while, can you see the catholic guilt? I will make it all better, thanks for the remind, even though its not what you meant.

#13  And that mental image is brought to you courtesy of Rantburg, where the ladies are generally much more classy even when scantily dressed.

(PS: the tip jar is over to the right .... LOL)

#12  ;-)

Anyway, while it's possible that 'someone with an agenda' is deliberately manufacturing complaints, in this case I do empathize with families bringing kids on vacation / home and having no "turn the channel" remote for some of the ...

slutty ...

dress I've seen when flying in the last two years.

And that's not a word I use often or lightly. But I can't come up with a better one for an 18-20 yr old in a tube top with no bra, barely covering the last 2" of the breasts, plus a knit micro skirt that made it quite clear there wasn't even a thong underneath.

And THEN she put her bags in the upper bin. And looked around to make sure everyone was watching her display ....

Paris Hilton wannabe without the money or plastic surgery.

#11  Not lately LOTP, but now my imagination is all over it! Thanks! Could not resist LOL.

#10  Most people sit facing forwards and wouldn't be able to view her outfit once she sat down so I'm not sure what the big deal is.

Ever see a short woman in a shorter skirt put something in the upper bin?

Doesn't leave much to the imagination .....

#9  Flight attendants in the 60s wore skirts about the same length. I wouldn't be surprised to find out someone or some group is specifically reporting the outfits and trying to enforce their own agenda.

#8  If you show up at a nice restaurant without a tie they often provide one. Perhaps SWA should have a loaner t-shirt or something.

#7  Most people sit facing forwards and wouldn't be able to view her outfit once she sat down so I'm not sure what the big deal is. Perhaps the flight attendants are getting turned on and not doing their jobs or something.

#6  I flew SWA a lot before I stopped flying. If SWA had a problem, there was a problem.

#5  (IIUC, the airlines received complaints from families about the dress of the two young women who were approached.)

#4  "How about you go get me a drink and stop worrying about how I'm dressed? Chop chop!"

The other side of this is:

"How about you dress decently in public so I can take my kids on that plane to see Grandma?"

I've seen young women board with no underwear - upper or lower. At some point freedom of expression needs to compromise with the basic self-control decencies that allow a society to function.

#3  If they kicked her off a plane I was on, I guarrentee you, there would be a riot...

#2  Woah!
Now, now, Samantha, lets not make a scene. Perhaps Ms. Qassim would like to sit up in the cockpit with us so she won't distract the passengers?
