It’s the birthday of Gus Hall, Minnesota’s most famous Communist. By the time he was six hours old, he had organized the maternity ward into a proletariat council, purged nine babies for preferring the right breast to the left, and sent two stuffed bunnies to the reeducation camp for asserting that the New Economic Policy of 1921 was “a manifestation of recrudescent capitalistic exploitation.” (The bunnies remained silent during the trial, and did not contradict the accusations.) |
