Anti-Muslim posters go up at George Washington University
2007-10-10
Another sign of the general feeling against growing Islamist radicalism came to light on Monday here when anti-Muslim posters were found plastered on the walls of George Washington University, widely known as a liberal campus.

Campus police removed the posters and fliers as student bodies met to deplore the incident. One poster carried the photo of an Arab with a description of a “typical Muslim” as one who wears a “suicide vest,” carries a “hidden AK-47” and bears a “peg-leg for smuggling children and heroin”. According to press reports, the posters have upset the student body, which is hosting an “Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week” later this month. Some students thought the posters might be a joke at the expense of the conservatives, as fine print at the bottom of one said: “Brought to you by Students for Conservativo-Fascism Awareness” — and a postscript recommending a BBC video on the politics of fear.

The Washington Post quoted a New York Muslim student Najah El Bash, a leader of the conservative Muslim Students Association, who said, “I was just really shocked that this sort of hatred exists on our campus. You never think this would come so close to home, from people you’re in classes with. It’s scary.”

University President Steven Knapp said in a statement, “There is no place for expressions of hatred on our campus.” He called the fliers reprehensible and said students of different faiths would be gathering this week for a community meal with Muslims during Ramazan. “This event speaks of our university’s commitment to global cultural understanding and respect,” he added.
Uhuh. Right. Gotcha. The posters are designed, printed, and distributed by the usual leftist goons. It even says so on the posters themselves, though in fine print. And Gooby, from the Muslim Students Association, he's just shocked as shocked can be that there's such sentiment on campus. It's almost like one of the lefties' tedious stunts didn't come off quite right, but don't worry because they'll blame it on the campus fascists.
Charles, of course, has more details.

#9  It's become abundantly clear that the left's latest tactic is to invent a controversy when there is none. Reasonable people need to come to some sort of consensus on how to deal with these fabrications.

When truth no longer matters, a nation is doomed.

#8  I retract saying I will drink a toast to someone who did this at GWU. I'll instead drink a toast to Rantburgers. However, I find that drinking and posting at Rantburg don't work well for me.

#7  The leftist/Islamist students who perpetrated the fraud come clean: Seven GW students admit to hanging controversial posters.

#6  Guys a Muslim student admitted to putting up the posters. Which is really funny considering how true there were.

#5  The MSA is just upset that they hadn't thought up the peg-leg bit.

#4  The (school paper) GW Hatchet reported on Monday that the VP for Student Affairs said he would definitely seek expulsion of the students responsible for the posters.

That was before the actual guilty parties 'fessed up. I wonder if he will seek to expel a Iraq Vet and his lefty/islami pals?

Also, I had full access to all of the GW Hatchet articles last night, today they've gone behind the registration firewall.

#3  I'm aghast. Astounding. The shock of it all. Someone would not like islam? Oh well, I guess I'll move on and enjoy a cup of coffee. Maybe I'll drink a toast later to someone at GWU.

#2  Â“There is no place for expressions of hatred on our campus.”

--that's right mr. prez, better not dislike any other culture or religion or it's down right hate speech...all are equal in the socialist ummah of GWU. A quick little comparison for even the most degenerated leftard -- whose philospy wrt the treatment of foreigners, sinners, children, and women was more benevolent & actually back w/some reason: JC's or Momo's? I rest my case. (However I doubt most leftards have struggled through the menagerie that is the koran)

What's even more funny about this event is that it was a hoax perpetrated by other lefty's in order to smear conservative clubs, I love how all these idiots don't highlight that little tidbit.

BTW - I bet the Original GW is rolling in his grave at the mess that is our politcal university system.

#1  LGF suggests it's satire gone wrong. Still ... it's an opportunity for outrage. Cue Rage Boy.
