| Rusafa insurgents target civilians with car bomb |

| Three Iraqis, including one police officer, were killed, and seven Iraqis, including another police officer, were wounded, when an insurgent detonated a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device Oct. 12 in the Rusafa District, an eastern section of the Iraqi capital. One Iraqi Police vehicle was also destroyed in the explosion. Shortly after the attack, Iraqi Army personnel and Soldiers with Company D, 1st Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, attached to the 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, responded and sealed off the area. The wounded were transported to a medical facility for treatment. Both U.S. and Iraqi forces launch daily clearing operations to capture insurgents and uncover weapons caches. These missions aim to reduce sectarian violence and set the conditions for Iraqi takeover of security. |
