Afghan and US troops kill 50 Taliban fighters
2007-11-22
Afghan police and US-led coalition forces killed more than 50 Taliban militants in fighting in southern Afghanistan, the government said on Wednesday.

The militants were killed in clashes in the volatile Charchino district of Uruzgan province over the past 24 hours, the Interior Ministry said in a statement. There were no casualties to Afghan and US forces, the government said. The operation involved ground and air attacks, Uruzgan Police Chief Juma Gul Himat said. Separately a Taliban commander and four of his guards were killed in a police operation in Deh Rawood district of the same province on Tuesday, said the statement.

#6  It seems that the Afghan army has rejected "spray and pray" for accurate aiming and target aquisition. If that's true, the talibanned will soon be extinct. Now if we could only get the "tribal leaders" to do an "Anbar Awakening", I'd be a lot more optimistic about the future of Afghanistan.

#5  COMBINED JOINT TASK FORCE- 82 press release:
ANSF-led forces continue to inflict heavy insurgent losses in Oruzgan province
Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF), advised by Coalition forces, killed a large group of insurgents after a botched ambush by the Taliban near Sarsina village, Oruzgan province today.

The combined force was conducting a reconnaissance patrol when a large group of insurgents engaged the patrol with small arms fire and rocket propelled grenades. The combined force immediately returned accurate small arms and machine gun fire, putting the enemy on the defensive. The company-size group of insurgents attempted to out-maneuver the combined force and moved into a nearby structure and trench line forcing innocent Afghan citizens to flee the area.

Moments later, the combined force fixed the insurgents in their position and several precision air strikes effectively eliminated the Taliban insurgents who were trying to reinforce the enemy positions.

There you are, Glenmore. You need only wish, and the Pakistani Daily Times acts. ;-)

gorb, I think they might be sniggering rather than thankful, but that's only an assumption on my part.

#3  I'm hoping they all got killed and that 360 virgins have plenty to be thankful for today. :-)

#2  More the results of "W" getting tuff with the Taliban in Afghanistan (a 9/11 move that won't be argued by the Congress)! And of course, with Rendition going down the tubes, the incentive to take prisoners will plummet as well!

#1  Numbers aren't credible unless air support was involved. 50+ 'bunnies killed and no coalition casualties? And no mention of captured or wounded 'bunnies? Either the 'bunnie count is released by way too optimistic Afghan press agent, or air was involved; in either case, expect to hear shortly that most of the killed were innocent women and children.
