Egypt on Thursday summoned 27 EU ambassadors in Cairo to notify them of its objection to a looming European Parliamentary bill condemning alleged human rights violations in the country.
He also voiced Egypt's objection to bids by any state or agency to comment on the country's human rights. "Egypt can not allow any state or agency to give lessons to other countries on their international conditions, regardless of its remarks on the performance of such countries, especially in the field of human rights," Zaki added. "It is better for those countries to pay attention to their citizens' sufferings from systematic human rights abuses before they judge other countries' human rights conditions," he emphasized. Bilateral cooperation, coordination and consultations will be overshadowed by such a bill, he warned. Egyptian parliament has decided to boycott the meetings of the Euro-Mediterranean Parliament in response to a potential draft law by the European Parliament, condemning alleged human rights violations in Egypt. It has also warned that it will sever relations with the European Parliament and Euro-Mediterranean Parliament for what he calls "blatant interference in Egypt's domestic affairs under the guise of human rights violations." | |
