| India considers drafting officer material. |

| #1 The Defence Minister commented on this yesterday. They never considered a draft. A reporter asked the Army chief about the Officer recruitment shortfall and the possibility of a draft and he replied. Somehow this ended up in the newspapers as "conscription being considered". The Indian Army has never had conscription. From its formation under the British, it has been an all-volunteer force. |
