Major among three killed in Bajaur Agency blast
2008-02-15
A roadside bomb struck a security vehicle in Mamoond, killing three personnel, including Major Farhan, and wounding two others, sources said on Thursday. The sources said the security personnel were going from the Katkot Fort to Khar when their vehicle was targeted with a remote-controlled bomb on Tarkho Pul (bridge). The funeral prayers of the deceased were offered at Bajaur Scouts headquarters and their bodies were sent to their ancestral villages. No group has accepted responsibility for the attack. Meanwhile, the local Taliban in Bajaur Agency assured a Mamoond tribe jirga that they would suspend their activities during the elections and would not attack security forces on February 17 and 18. According to sources, the Taliban were also willing to hold further negotiations for the restoration of peace in the area.
