BERLIN - Leaders of GermanyÂ’s ruling coalition will hold a special meeting on Tuesday to discuss the countryÂ’s military mission in Afghanistan, a government spokesman said on Friday. The government is considering renewing its mandate-which expires in October-for more than the usual year to prevent it running out just after GermanyÂ’s next general elections in September 2009, foreign ministry spokesman Martin Jaeger told reporters.
‘Members of the coalition will meet to discuss the upcoming mandate in order to align their positions,’ Jaeger said. ‘The actual date for renewing that mandate will be in the middle of October 2009, when the next German government will be very new.’
And just as unwilling to commit their soldiers to anything of risk. |
