| 6 suspects held in Tank |

| The army on Sunday arrested six suspected militants in areas where troops have battled pro-Taliban fighters in recent months. The arrests were made in the town of Tank in Swat, a mountain valley where followers of a pro-Taliban cleric tried to seize control and declare Islamic law last year. Violence blamed on Al-Qaeda and Taliban-linked militants has spiked recently in the country. Moderate parties, who triumphed in the general elections last month, have vowed to combat spreading extremism but have yet to map out their strategy. |
