2008-04-30 | |
Col Mujahid Hussain, the Mahsud Scouts commandant in Khyber Agency, on Tuesday recited some verses from the holy Quran to appeal to the tribal people to join hands with the Pakistan Army against terrorism.
Haji Namdar, the chief of Amar Bil Maroof Wa Nahi Anil Munker – a vice and virtue organisation enforcing Islamic laws in the area – also attended the function. The two men’s presence at the function comes days after the organisation attempted to kidnap seven Mahsud Scouts soldiers. Punish: Haji Namdar told Daily Times that he had “punished” all those who attempted to kidnap the soldiers. “My soldiers recite the Quran everyday and say prayers five times a day. How can they fight for foreign forces?” Hussain said, as Mahsud Scouts soldiers and Haji Namdar’s armed militants were guarding the premises. “This Islamic army will guard Islam. How can this army go against Islam or join hands with anti-Islamic forces?” Hussain asked. He said anti-Islamic forces were “out to damage this army as enemies of Islam are real enemy of the Pakistan Army”. “There is an all-out campaign to damage the army by political and military means,” the Mahsud Scouts commandant said, adding, “Some people are misguided and misinformed and that is why they are fighting against the Pakistan Army. They call it jihad but this is ignorance.” Hussain said he was admirer of Namdar’s “thinking”. Later, a cleric urged students to learn modern sciences, to help invent new technology to defeat anti-Islamic forces, which he said were far better armed than the mujahideen. | |
