(VOI) – Four Iraqi servicemen, including an officer, were killed on Saturday when an improvised explosive device targeted their patrol in southeastern Mosul city, an army source said.
"An explosive charge went off on Saturday afternoon near an Iraqi army patrol in Hayy Somar area in southeastern Mosul," the source, who requested anonymity, told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI). The explosion killed four patrolmen, including an army major. Since May 10, Iraqi security forces have been launching a wide-scale military operation, codenamed Lion's Roar, with the aim of tracking down al-Qaeda operatives in the city of Mosul. Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. |
