Turkish guard, three PKK rebels killed
2008-05-25
Three Kurdish rebels and one government village guard have been killed in two clashes in southeast Turkey, according to authorities. Two Kurdish rebels were killed near the southern city of Sirnak late Thursday, the military said. In a separate incident, in clashes near the border with Iran, one Kurdish rebel and one soldier were killed, the state-run Anatolia news agency said on Friday. During the clashes three guards were wounded. PKK rebels have been fighting for autonomy in southern Turkey since 1984. The fighting has claimed tens of thousands of lives.
