Leader of Qaeda-linked group detained near Kirkuk |

(VOI)- A leader from the Qaeda-linked Islamic State in Iraq armed group was arrested on Monday near the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk, an Iraqi army source said. “Acting upon intelligence, an Iraqi army force managed to arrest a leader from the Islamic State in Iraq armed group in al-Dakmati village, 30 km southwest of Kirkuk, “ Major-General Shewan Hama Gharib told Aswat al-Iraq- Voices of Iraq- (VOI). The detainee, according to Gharib, admitted that he had killed 11 persons and planted nearly 60 explosive devices all over Kirkuk province. The self-styled Islamic State in Iraq, al-Qaeda-linked-armed group, was declared in October 2006 in the Sunni areas in Diala, Kirkuk and Mosul. Also near Kirkuk, a roadside bomb exploded, yesterday evening, near an ambulance in Daquq district, 35 km south of Kirkuk, wounding the driver and a passer-by, according to Daquq police. Kirkuk is 250 km northeast of Baghdad. |
