Palestinian PM denies presenting Fatah-Hamas reconciliation proposal
2008-07-07
(Xinhua) — Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad on Sunday denied reports that he has presented a new initiative to make reconciliation between rival groups of Fatah and Hamas. There is no new initiative regarding the Palestinian internal situation except the one by President Mahmoud Abbas,' Fayyad told reporters.

Last month, Abbas said he was ready to talk to Hamas which routed his security forces and ousted his Fatah movement in a week-long deadly infighting in Gaza over one year ago.

On Friday, Israeli newspaper Ha'aretz reported that Fayyad's plan calls for an Egyptian delegation to be based in the Hamas-controlled Gaza to act as a judge between Hamas and Fatah and to oversee the disarmament of the two groups and the unification of security services. Fayyad said the report quoted him as elaborating Abbas' plan which aims at ending the political split between Gaza and the West Bank.

Abbas appointed Fayyad, a western-backed economist, to lead a government ruling from the West Bank city of Ramallah after firing a Hamas-led coalition government in June 2007. Hamas does not recognize Fayyad and the deposed Hamas government still rules Gaza.

Yeah, that'll work. A Pali without his automatic weapon is like a day the sun don't come up.
