Former Newark Mayor Gets 27-Month Sentence
2008-07-30
Time for another exciting episode of "Name That Party!!"
After lecturing a federal prosecutor for adhering "heartlessly" to a cold version of bureaucratic justice, a federal judge on Tuesday sentenced former Mayor Sharpe James of Newark to 27 months in prison for failing to disclose his romantic relationship with a woman whom he helped to get a lucrative deal on some city-owned land.

Former Newark Mayor Sharpe James entered the federal courthouse in Newark, N.J., to be sentenced on corruption charges on Monday. United States District Judge William Martini also ordered Mr. James to pay a $100,000 fine.

Mr. James's former mistress, Tamika Riley, was sentenced to 15 months in prison and ordered to pay $27,000 in restitution to the city.

#6  "suck the chrome off a trailer hitch" Now that doesn't make my leg tingle. I notice that she got off easier than he did. Any "community service" come into play here?

#5  Jomock Platypus9662, having lived for years in two of those states (NJ, MA) you aren't far off. But, the other state in which I lived for a significant period probably edges out MA for 3rd.

The great state of OBAMAGASM (aka IL) is number 3 on my list behind NJ & LA.

#4  BTW, anyone want to bet Ms. Riley couldn't suck the chrome off a trailer hitch?

#3  When you think about corrupt state government, where's the first place that comes to mind? For me, in a close race it's Jersey, followed closely by Louisiana with Massachusetts coming up on the outside...

#2  I'm supposed to throw out the history of a man's life for misconduct he committed at age 69?

The 'esteem' judge failed to remember that Al Capone was only sent up on tax evasion as well. These people really need term limits.
